Home FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS  Post A Journey

What is RETURN RIDE?
RETURN RIDE is the only On-Line Database allowing anyone to post brief details of a forthcoming journey that they intend to make in order to make use of empty taxis. This system is fuel efficient making for a greener environment, and is cost effective for the public and taxi trade alike.

How much does it cost to post a journey?
Posting a Journey is absolutely FREE OF CHARGE.

What details will I have to give?
Your name, date of the journey, approx pick up time, pick up district or town, destination district or town, contact number and number of passengers.

How will posting details of my journey get me a taxi?
RETURN RIDE maintains a National Database of Licensed Taxi and Private Hire Drivers who subscribe to our system. These drivers check our web site regularly and will contact you when they are able to cover your journey at a discounted rate.

Why would a taxi driver offer a substantial discount on my journey?
Unless a journey is pre-booked it is illegal for a taxi to pick up fares or ply for hire when it is outside of it's Licensing Area. Consequently, most of the time the taxi makes it's return trip without any passengers. If your journey would take him back towards his home town the cabbie would willingly offer a substantial discount on the normal fare. This is because he is already travelling in that direction, has already been paid on the forward journey and your fare is seen as a bonus.

How do I know that a fully licensed taxi or private hire car will pick me up?
When a driver applies to become a subscriber to our system he has to prove that he is properly licensed with his local authority. This includes driver's licence, vehicle licence and  CRB checks. We only allow bona fide licensed drivers to subscribe.

How will the driver contact me?
When you post the details of your journey we ask you to leave a contact telephone number. This is the number the driver will use.

How many people will see my telephone number?
Your contact number is not displayed on the database. If a driver wishes to contact you a request for your number has to be made. We only ever give customer's telephone numbers to subscribing drivers and keep a log recording the name of the person making the request, and the date and time that the request was made.
